Suzanne Wetanson
United States
Born in Washington D.C., Suzanne Wetanson draws, paints, writes, carves stone, and sculpts. The artist’s body of work is vast and in recent years, having carved marble, alabaster, and limestone and cast bronze and resin, her focus has been primarily on sculpting. With the classics as her point of departure, Wetanson sculpts with an emphasis on fluidity and power in motion.
In Wetanson’s own words, “It is a lucky person who can find a tool to satisfy his psyche. Mine is sculpture. It gives me peace, an opportunity to glorify my sympathies and give infinite movement to what otherwise would be a hard, static element. It gives me power, and also humility.”
Wetanson studied art at The Art Students League of New York, The East Side Sculpture Center, and Credal Foundry in Marbella, Spain. The artist now lives and works in New York City, Watermill, New York and Forte dei Marmi, Italy where she is affiliated with the exclusive Marianna Foundry in Pietra Santa.
