Patti Grabel is a multi-faceted artist who works in a broad range of mediums including painting, drawing, photography, assemblage, and found-object sculpture. The artist’s work explores imagery and reveals narratives that are, at once, personal yet universal, whimsical yet poignant, intimate yet public. Grabel began working with spoons as her primary artistic medium in 2015, earning her the moniker, “The Spoon Lady”.
Grabel’s work has been shown in both solo and group exhibitions by a number of prestigious galleries, including Woolff Gallery in London, Artiz Gallery in New York City, Galleria Ca’ D’Oro also in New York City and Chase Edwards Contemporary in Bridgehampton, to name just a few. The sale of her work has benefitted the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Museum of Arts and Design, City Harvest and Michael Bolton Charities, amongst numerous other not for profits and, more recently, Grabel was Artist in Residence at the JCC Miami Beach where she created “Causing a Stir,” a solo exhibition of 18 pieces. Her work is now part of JCC’s permanent collection. In the summer of 2023, Grabel’s surfboard installation, “I Am My Answer,” was featured at the Hamptons Holiday House event which raises funds for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Grabel’s “I Am My Answer” and “Note to Self” installations were unveiled in the lobby of The Phillips Family Cancer Treatment Center in Southampton. In addition to making art, Grabel is a writer and producer and her book, “In Love With Spoons” will be published in 2023. This work pays tribute to the symbolic, spiritual and true value of spoons and incorporates her writing and her art as well as contributions from a host of culinary and thought leaders, including Eric Ripert, Deepak Chopra and Divya Alter, amongst others.
Grabel earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Simmons College in Boston and she has studied screenwriting at NYU. The artist lives and works in New York City and in Watermill NY.
