Mona Dworkin
United States, 1957
Raised just outside of New York City, Mona Dworkin is a mixed media painter whose early life experiences with diversity shaped her world view. Dworkin states “Through early childhood friendships I learned about wealth disparity and the racial divide, it has shaped my beliefs then and now.” And so, Dworkin’s work aspires to give voice to those oppressed by systemic racism and sexism and to awaken sensitivities in those who overlook it.
Dworkin’s creations are abstract in style and she often uses elements of collage to illuminate the complexity of relationships – declarations of love, intimacy and uncertainty intersect one another against a backdrop of social commentary in these captivating works. In recent years, the artist’s work has appeared in over 25 group and solo exhibitions in a variety of venues throughout the U.S.
Dworkin received her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz and she now resides and works in Richmond, Virginia.
